In Memory of Laura Lee (Howk) Jones
Laura Lee Jones, 92, of Stockbridge, GA passed away on January 9, 2019 with family by her side.
Laura Lee (Howk) Jones was born on June 5, 1926 in Bird City, KS to the late Leroy Herbert and Lavern Gallagher Howk. She Graduated from Bird City High School in 1944 and received her BSN from Denver University. She married Robert Jones on August 15, 1948. They lived most of their married life in Bird City raising three daughters, Becky, Sharon and Cindy. Her life in Bird City was centered on being a partner with Bob in their farming operations. They retired to Bella Vista, AR in 2005 then later (2014) moved to Georgia to be near family.
Laura Lee is fondly remembered in many ways. She was an active member of the Bird City Methodist Church where she served as organist for 37 years and loved playing duets with sister-in-law, Barbara Beougher. She passed her appreciation of music on to many others by giving piano lessons. Bird City benefitted from her nursing skills from allergy shots to long-term care. Laura Lee was an accomplished seamstress and knitter. Her girls have fond memories of matching Easter dresses. She taught all 3 of her girls to sew and knit, which they continue to do (unlike the piano lessons). Her homemade bread, doughnuts, krispies and cinnamon rolls were favorites of her family and their friends. For many years, Laura Lee, was the official “runner” at the Tri-State Antique Engine and Thresher Show. She tied a balloon to her belt loop so she could be found when needed.
Laura Lee LOVED the opportunity to influence and care for her nine grandchildren. They often quote her words of wisdom such as “It’ll get well before you get married,” and “If you don’t eat it, I’ll stick it in your ear.”
Laura Lee is survived by her husband, Robert, of 70 years, daughters Becky (Bryce) Pringle of McDonough, GA, Sharon (Roger) Haack of Windsor, CO and Cindy (Ken) Curry of Cookeville, TN. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Tom (Erin) Pringle of McDonough, GA, Libby Pringle of Indianola, IA, Bryan (Carolyn) Haack and Justin (Tenley) Haack of Ft Collins, CO, Aaron (Kim) Haack of Kildeer, IL, Matt Curry of Greeley, CO, Ben (Trish) Curry of Arlington, TN and Dan (Chelsey) Curry of Lebanon, TN. Add to her legacy eleven great-grandchildren.
Laura Lee was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Marie Rinehart, and grandson, Andy Pringle.
A Celebration of Life will be at a later date in Bird City, KS.
