The Tim Kowalski Second Chance Scholarship is available for USD 274 – Oakley High School graduating seniors (some consideration may be given to former Oakley School students who obtained a GED.) Students must be planning to attend a two-year vocational, technical, or junior college which issues a certificate of completion within 2 years or less. Students must demonstrate a financial need and a desire to obtain a certificate to prepare them for the workforce. This scholarship is paid as one $500 payment directly to the educational institution in which the student is enrolled. Awards will be announced at Recognition Night prior to graduation. Applications are accepted until April 1 (end of day) annually.

Mr. Tim Kowalski grew up on a farm south of Oakley, and learned by doing, the basics of welding, electricity, plumbing, and working with his hands and wits. Unfortunately, not many kids today have that kind of background. It has served him well and he has been blessed beyond measure. His goal is to make this scholarship as simple as possible, with the only real criteria being a desire to improve themselves and provide a service to the public. Mr. Kowalski has a belief that too many kids go to college because they have no idea what they want to do. This will provide them an opportunity to seek education with the skills of joining the workforce.
